Smit & Zoon announced that it has earned a Platinum level Material Health Certificate for its zeolite based retanning agent, Syntan ZLR 100.

Syntan ZLR 100, launched in April 2017 ,  is a chrome free, cationic retanning agent, based on the mineral zeolite that ensures clean, bright and intense colours and reduces the volume of chemicals needed in the retanning process and the volume of chemicals ending up in the waste water, thus reducing the environmental footprint.

Sanne van den Dungen, Scientific Project Manager at EPEA Netherlands commented: “It is very unique for a leather chemical to receive a Cradle to Cradle ® Material Health Certificate, especially on a platinum level. It truly shows Smit & zoon is on the right track in its mission towards a more sustainable leather industry. I hope more companies will follow Smit & zoon’s example.”
