The leather business unit of specialty chemicals company Lanxess is a leading provider of system solutions for the leather industry, from chemicals for all stages of leather production to intensive on-site technical support. The latest generation of products leading to unique tanning, retanning and finishing results – Lanxess is bringing economic interests, ecological soundness, and consumer safety requirements into line.

They are LANXESS’ latest developments in the field of polyisocyanate crosslinking agents. The main purpose of these products is the further reduction of VOC and smell, particularly in automotive applications which is very much driven by these two topics.

It’s a product to reduce the hydrolysis of collagen in the pickle due to an earlier addition of the chrome tanning salt. This improves the quality especially under hot climatic conditions. Furthermore, additional advantages are the reduction of salt required in the pickle and the CTS offer.

Trials showed an improved chrome distribution in the cross-section of unsplit wet blue and the potential to completely replace sulfuric and formic acid in the pickle.

It’s an aliphatic PUD top coat binder for high gloss finishes such as e.g. patent imitation. BAYDERM® X-tra GLOSS is commonly used as a sole binder where it imparts a very high gloss and transparency with very good physical properties. The product can be crosslinked and is applied by spraying, reverse roll coating or even curtain coating.

It’s a new anionic powder dyestuff specially developed for drum dyeing with specific color tone and required jetness demanded by our customers, suitable for all leather types. Solubility, exhaustion and penetration are all good, together with good uniform tone in tone build up on the flesh and grain sides. For automotive it has adequate HHM fastness properties compared to commonly used black dyes in this application.

BAYGENAL® Black QX conc.

It’s a new highly concentrated black, anionic powder dyestuff version of BAYGENAL® Black QX specially developed for drum dyeing but with neutral color tone and high degree of jetness.

BAYSIN® X-tra Luster HTC

It’s a hard and transparent protein binder for the use in both base and top coat formulations where it imparts a natural appearance, a pleasant and dry surface touch and a high gloss and brilliancy.

It’s a new patent filed polymer applied in conjunction with the patented LEVOTAN® W to attain the highest dynamic and static waterproof requirements. It can be used to produce significantly firmer leather types for high specification leather articles. It gives a drier surface feel, ideal for production of nubuck with uniform dyeing. It can also be applied as a high performance softening agent with excellent light fastness, tight grain and excellent filling. It is anionic and compatible with the usual anionic retanning products.

This formaldehyde-free acrylic binder is special for its high concentration which makes it especially suitable for the use in transfer coating for thicker layers such as the intermediate and the adhesive coat. The product imparts a very good coverage and filling, good adhesion flex performance and hydrolysis resistance.

EUDERM® X-tra Wax TG

It’s a synthetic PE polishing wax for natural high gloss finishes, same as for e.g. glossy tips of finished articles for the use in aqueous base and top coat formulations. In binder containing base coats the product reduces the tackiness of the finish and enhances the dry rub fastness properties.

EUDERM® X-tra Wax Pull Up

This highly effective product for the manufacturing of pull up articles can be applied on both full grain and corrected grain leather, either directly on the crust or on top of standard base coats depending on the required article. Thanks to its special composition it is also possible to achieve pull up effects even on pigmented leather.

EUDERM® X-tra Wax PW

It’s a water-based wax for very strong burnishing effects which can be applied on both chrome and vegetable tanned crust. The burnish effect can be achieved easily by simple polishing.

EUDERM® X-tra Wax WB 2

“WB” stands for white break. This product is commonly used where fashion requires whitening effects with a beautiful contrast to the darker background of the underneath applied finish.

EUDERM® Prebottom NB

It’s a nonionic upgrading product made of synthetic fillers and waxes. For its nonionic nature the product can be combined with either anionic or cationic products which provides a wide range of applications for natural shoe upper and bag leather. Furthermore the product penetrates well, levels the penetration of subsequent coats and is polishable.

EUDERM® X-tra Prebottom NL

This prebottom is especially designed for the upgrading of small grain side defects on elegant leather articles with the aim to improve the surface quality of leather, while maintaining its natural and soft character after finishing.

EUDERM® Wax 2058

It’s an emulsion made of special natural waxes for articles with medium to strong pull up effects. The strongest effects are commonly achieved when the product is combined with suitable pull up oils. EUDERM® Wax 2058 can be ironed at high temperatures.

This nonionic and synthetic wax and oil emulsion is used where a nice gloss, transparency and a natural touch is required by e.g. polishing. Same as other nonionic products EUDERM® Wax NW can be combined with both anionic and cationic products.

It’s a versatile enzymatic ammonia-free bating product for a broad range of applications. Practical trials revealed a good opening up of the grain layer without sacrificing the grain tightness. This leads to a good inner softness and uniform grain break. The product is developed for the use in upper and upholstery leather types.

PRIMAL SB-160 Emulsion

It’s a new generation soft acrylic base coat binder which imparts very good coverage on both full grain and corrected grain leather types. Furthermore the product provides low TG, excellent print retention and cut through resistance with a low surface tack.
