The new Italian Leather Research Institute for the competitive strengthening of the sectorThe national programme to support ‘Made in Italy’ promoted by the Leather Research Institute: “Leather Technologies to Fashion Sustainability”.
The World Footwear Congress kicked off with the visit to the new headquarters of the Italian Leather Research Institute in the Olivetti District of Pozzuoli, Naples, and will continue until 5 April.
The transfer of all the activities of the Leather Institute to a modern and functional building inside the Olivetti District of Pozzuoli – declared the General Manager, Edoardo Imperiale – and investments in innovative infrastructure for training, research, experimentation and new technological laboratories, will allow improving the competitive capacity of Italian tanneries, the quality of production, technological development and sustainability for the entire supply chain and main target markets: furniture, automotive, footwear, interiors, fashion, leather goods.
Pasquale della Pia, National Councillor of Assocalzaturifici, underlined the central role that the National Leather Institute (SSIP) plays for the entire leather manufacturing chain: “The technical and scientific renewal of the National Leather Institute will play a determined and crucial role in strengthening the competitiveness of the entire national footwear sector. In fact, we are establishing an active collaboration between the SSIP and Assocalzaturifici, aimed at implementing all the strategies necessary to support Made in Italy.”
On the basis of these assumptions, Director Edoardo Imperiale announced the launch of the new national program to support Made In Italy developed by the National Leather Institute entitled “Leather Technologies to Fashion Sustainability” aimed at encouraging the development and consolidation of the leather supply chain in the footwear sector, by providing innovative services to make the sector more competitive nationwide and worldwide. Research, training, technical and scientific dissemination, services and tests will be promoted with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of all players in the integrated leather and footwear supply chain.
