Great substance, sparkling woldwide previews and an increasingly rich program of events: international top buyers met in Florence at the latest edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo. Foreign countries confirm the excellent numbers of visitors last June, led by the growing numbers of the United States (+23%), United Kingdom (+6%), Holland (+13%), France (+7%), Germany, Portugal, Hong Kong, Canada and India; the Italian front is experiencing a slight decline. In total, the buyers were 19.100 and visitors were more than 30.000 during this edition.

“The participation of the most important international and Italian buyers – with a growing number of online retailers, and the great attention from the best international press – said Raffaello Napoleone, CEO of Pitti Immagine – confirm the role of Pitti Immagine Uomo as a global reference model for lifestyle, quality scouting, and for the worldwide launch of new trends and fashion projects. The number of visitors and the feedback gathered among exhibitors and buyers also confirm that: great appreciation for the novelties proposed at the fair, the new exhibition projects we have launched at the Fortezza, the special events, and the atmosphere of creativity that invaded Florence during those days”.

Great interest and positive responses have come from the press and the buyers for the novelties at the Fortezza da Basso – such as I GO OUT, the new project on outdoor style presented at the Sala Della Ronda and which received unanimous appreciation, the Guest Nation Georgia, the Scandinavian Manifesto area, the many previews of this edition and the rich program of special events outside the Fortezza such as the show by the menswear guest designer CRAIG GREEN at Boboli Gardens, the special event by Roberto Cavalli at the Certosa, the show by Fumito Ganryu, as part of the designers project, the anniversary events of Herno and Lardini, the opening of the new spaces of the Gucci Garden, the preview of the Moncler Genius project with Hiroshi Fujiwara, the showcases and performance by MCM and Birkenstock, the BED j.w. Ford fashion show and the exhibition event by Emilio Pucci and Bonaveri.

As for the material trends seen at the fair, the leading directions are two: casual-chic classics and streetwear, also hybridized with each other, according to the new codes of easy formal, where the most classic rigour gives way to a new effortless style.

Leather (especially precious and exotic leather) was the real protagonist at Pitti Uomo Immagine, used not only for shoes, bags, clothing, but also for exclusive watch straps, spectacle shafts and cases, jewels. Among the proposals seen at the fair stand out the ones in the Mississippi alligator – rigorously hand-patinated – overturned calf leather, crocodile, ray and lizard, various types of snakes.

Luxury sneakers are always looking for innovation, even better if associated with product and process sustainability. The recovery of leather scraps, tanning and vegetable dying with suggestive chromatic effects, are to be pointed out.

The streetwear influences are obvious both in the design and the stylistic research, converging in a lifestyle horizon. Research has a dialogue with fashion in terms of union between aesthetics and function, studying the relationship between movement, item and environment. The concepts of weight and limit disappear before the combination of techno-materials, solutions such as zips or bellows and avant garde constructions. Trekking and biking shoes that merge technical and aesthetic performance, preserving the craftsmanship of the manufacturing process. The classic mountain boot puts on avant garde materials without neglecting the fashion element. Men’s lifestyle bags display a versatility combined with the high quality of the materials used. Besides the business, travel, belts and small leather goods part, research focuses on the proposal of backpacks with perfect proportions.
