The Dutch-based company is celebrating 195 years of activity at ACLE 2016 and for the occasion is looking forward to seeing operators at its stand to celebrate this important anniversary, and to take a look at the projects and upcoming trends

This story began in 1821 when Albert Smit, captain of the Dutch merchant vessel “De Koornzaaijer” threw the anchor for the last time and decided to invest his life savings in a company dedicated to the sale of dried codfish, salted herring and cod liver oil. Over time, the company’s activities developed to include different types of functional oils (marine, plant, animal), feed, pharmaceutical products and chemical products for the leather industry.

Today Smit & Zoon is a well-organised company (but still family-run) specialising in the production of tanning agents, leather finishing products and nutraceutical oils. It has 195 years of experience in the field spanning seven generations. An anniversary that the company will celebrate at the next 2016 All China Leather Exhibition. The multinational Dutch-based company (with subsidiaries in Germany, Italy and China, and more than 200 employees) has confirmed its presence in Hall E3/Stand B03 at the 19th ACLE, to be held from 31 August to 2 September 2016 in Shanghai.

The technical and sales staff will be available to provide information on the wide variety of finished and unfinished products (most of them focusing on the Chinese market) of the brand. The Smit Finishing division will showcase a wide range of finishing products such as crosslinkers; caseins, oils and waxes; pigments and aniline; lacquers; resins; and fixatives. Among the products that will be presented are the upgrades of non-ionic “Universal” and “Universal LC” pigments, which – in line with the company’s core values of Sustainability and Simplicity – allow reduced storage and easier usage.

The focus will also be on the “Basemark” series, a range of products designed to improve the appearance of leather, hiding any defects while leaving an extraordinary natural look. This results in a smooth surface which is the ideal starting point for all successive applications. The company’s wet-end division will display its new “Synthol LA 195” (a lanoline-based fat-liquor) that gives leather a soft and velvety touch, while reducing water adsorption and offering notable fullness. Recent additions to the Safetan family will also be showcased, including MW005, a retanning agent that improves grain tightness and waterproof uniformity of leather.

In addition to the important 195th anniversary, Smit & Zoon will also focus greatly on ACLE 2016, where it will present various innovative products and make available to operators a team of technicians to tell them how to best use these products in their work. Visitors to the stand can chat away while sipping on a refreshing juice (an installation is planned that will make fresh smoothies on the spot) to toast the 195 years of activity.
