The industrial plan for the next three years of the Mastrotto Group, a leading company in Europe in the processing of bovine hides for footwear, leather goods, furniture and the automotive sector, is based on the growth on international markets, thanks to an important investment plan.
And it is precisely to support growth that the tanning group, based in Arzignano, has decided to start the construction of a new production plant in Santa Croce sull’Arno, in the heart of another important tanning district of our country, which boasts almost two centuries of history.

The construction of the new plant, which includes overall investments of about 15 million euro, will take place during this year and the completion of the works is scheduled for the first
part of 2019. “This industrial operation will allow the Group to assure its customers international products made in Italy, with complete control of all production stages.

The investment in Tuscany will not be made to move production volumes, but in order to create a sinergy between the new plant and the plants in Arzignano”, explains an official source. In Santa Croce, the Mastrotto Group will first of all bring employment: in fact, about 50 employees will be included in the workforce, which will be hired locally, as the Tuscan district can count on skilled labour.

Not just that: the Mastrotto Group will also bring cutting-edge technology and an industrial footprint: all production lines will be able to count on the most modern systems now available for the tanning technology. The new plant will have a covered area of about 12,000 square meters and will be designed according to modern construction technologies and a careful use of all energy resources. Inside will circulate only electric means of transport, while the installed photovoltaic system will be twice the minimum size requested by law.

We think that a part from employment, on the territory of Santa Croce we can also express our other strengths such as organization, know-how, technology and respect for the environment – said Santo Mastrotto, co-founder of the Group with his brother Bruno – and we also think we can learn a lot from the Tuscan district appreciated by the great prestige of its tanning history, which has made Italian leather in the world important and to which we look with great respect. We believe this “fusion” between a large industrial group like ours and the Tuscan industrial reality, represents a courageous operation, given the investment amounts planned in Italy, which is now a rarity in the panorama of our country, since it tends to look increasingly at foreign countries and to relocate. We are also convinced that it can trace a virtuous path, in its historical and avant-garde way, for the bond that will be created between the two main Italian tanning districts.

The choice of the Tuscan district has also been determined by this investment-friendly area: «In Santa Croce we have found the far-sightedness of local administrations in favouring new industrial settlements – continues Santo Mastrotto – and excellent management skills in solving environmental and industrial treatment issues».
