A very special edition of Simac Tanning Tech 2021 which ended Friday 24 September at Fiera Milano Rho. After the missed appointment of 2020 due to the pandemic, this year the leather technology fair has had to deal with travel restrictions that have kept many visitors from Asia and South America away. Despite the difficult context due to the pandemic, Simac Tanning Tech has nevertheless passed the market test with full marks, confirming once again its centrality in the sector. For some, it was an edition that exceeded expectations, and for all an opportunity to physically meet some of the customers. As for the manufacturers of tannery machines gathered in Hall 18, Antonio Galiotto, CEO of ERRETRE/F.LLI CARLESSI, was among the most satisfied, present with one of the largest stands at the fair: “We booked the same space as in 2019 and we did the right thing: these three days gave excellent results, well beyond expectations with the arrival of highly qualified visitors with whom we started very important negotiations”. Positive results also for Cesare Dal Monte, managing director of GER ELETTRONICA: “There were no curious visitors but those who came to the fair were motivated. It has been an excellent opportunity for us to present many new products all together”. “We knew it would be an edition with few foreigners but it was important to be there and to give a sign”, comments Roberto Calattini of SC COSTRUZIONI. The increase in the prices of raw materials and the difficulty in finding semiconductors and other components of Asian origin, problems that affect all industrial sectors, curb however the enthusiasm: “The increases in raw materials are making our work difficult – reports Sabrina Bauce of BAUCE – There would be orders, both from Italy thanks to Industry 4.0, and from abroad, including China, but the higher price lists and the shortage of certain components are heavily slowing down the restart”.
For the organisers it was “an edition proud of having marked the restart of the manufacturing sector of manufacturers and suppliers of technologies for the fashion industry”. Thanks to the digital support system for the fair, created through the dedicated APP, the number of accreditations was just slightly under 5,000 users including visitors and buyers in attendance and online, of which 1/3 foreigners, coming from 50 countries.“The numbers of the event and the impressions collected during the three days of the fair – reads the Assomac note – made us understand how important it was to be present and not miss the SIMAC TANNING TECH appointment. Visitors came to see the proposals of innovative solutions and to ask for more technical information on the latest technologies related to automation and digitisation, safety and improvement of environmental performance”.
During the inauguration on Wednesday 22 September, in addition to Maria Vittoria Brustia, president of the event and Assomac (the National Association of Manufacturers of footwear, leathergoods and tanning technologies), intervened also: Mando Di Stefano, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Guido Guidesi, Councilor for Economic Development of the Lombardy Region and Carlo Maria Ferro, President of ITA/ICE Agency.
As mentioned above, the uncertainties and restrictions due to the health emergency have limited the usual presence of buyers from some countries (especially Southeast Asia), but the event has not diminished its international relevance, also thanks to the remote participation of Technological and Research Centres that took part in the Assomac TALKS. The leading exponents of ten international technology centres and innovation poles have in fact participated in three “Digital Round Tables”, bringing their contribution and demonstrating the need for a reference and sharing platform for the latest technological innovations, such as Simac Tanning Tech.
ASSOMAC has also continued its commitment towards sustainability, increasing its “ASSOMAC Forest”: a project born during the event’s 2020 edition and which currently has 700 plants in a forest in Madagascar, thanks to the project developed with Treedom. The plants were donated to Assomac’s partners, an action to compensate for CO2 emissions to promote the sustainability of the sector in which ASSOMAC operates.
The appointment with Simac Tanning Tech has already been renewed for September 2022. A functional date, considered more strategic than the one of February, on which everyone agreed.
